Duties of a Chatelaine

The Chatelaine (“sha-teh-layn”) is the baronial officer in charge of outreach and recruiting. The Chatelaine does many activities for the SCA, including actively recruiting new members, coordinating public relations, and helping new members get used to the community of the SCA. Sometimes the SCA community can seem a little intimidating for people interested in historical reenactment, but the Chatelaine can help you get acquainted with the local barony and all the fun things they do.

You can talk to the Chatelaine if you want to:

• Find out where and when the barony meets

• Find out what activities the members of the barony do

• Ask the barony to help with educational or demo activities

• Talk to anyone in the barony for news or media questions

• Get more involved in the SCA for your first time and need some help figuring out how to do it

Sometimes the Chatelaine may have a special deputy called the Gold Key. This person is in charge of keeping a small store of medieval style clothing to help new people coming to their first SCA events have something to wear to be part of the reenactment community. They can lend you a couple of pieces of clothing to use if you don’t have your own.
