With the coming of May, We are reminded of so many things that give us great joy: having the most amazing populace in the Known World, the camaraderie and friendship of Our friends, both near and far, and verily the best version of The Dream We have ever experienced! Let the coming summer months warm not only your body, yet your heart and soul as well. We look forward to enjoying it all with you!
First of all, We must say that It has been a wonderful tenure these past few years for Us, and it is time for us to pass the proverbial torch to our successors. Therefore, we are accepting letters of intent for Baron and Baroness of Loch Salann through Quest, the 28th of May, which is commonly known as Memorial Day. Please consider putting in your letters of intent, but please do so very soon! We will have a meet and greet for our candidates at Melee Madness, The King’s Road: Baron’s War, and another date to be determined once all letters of intent have been received.
This past month we were able to attend Crown Tournament to witness the victory of Their Highnesses Yuri and Sumayya; many congrats to them and we are so proud to serve with them! We also attended the feast of Saint Pyre with our friends in Cote du Ciel. It was so much fun to once again participate in the carrot-face tourney and the bar room brawl! Then, to wrap up the month of April, we had a wonderful time on Antelope Island for Regional War Practice. Thanks to so many of you and to the members of Gryphon’s Lair for attending and making it a success!
This month is going see more opportunities to share The Dream: on the 12th you will find us at the Provo Castle to share with our southern neighbors the joy of combat, archery, revelry and more at Castle Crusades! A few weeks later, we shall return to this amazing site for our very own Melee Madness on 2-3 June, so prepare your gear and join us, one and all! Also, this month, in the Barony of Gryphon’s Lair, there is an event called Quest (for the Holy Grail) on the weekend of 25th through 28th. Please plan to dust off your camping gear and support our northern cousins in this wonderful opportunity!
The Barony has openings for Seneschal, as Lady Luveday’s warrant is set to expire in November. Also, we have a need for a new Chronicler as Lady Rhianna’s warrant is up at the end of this month. Both Ladies have served the barony well and look forward to well-earned breaks. Please inquire into these offices and look into serving other offices as deputies to make the running of the barony easier. As they say, many hands make for light work!
From the office of Chatelain, His Grace Timmur, is putting out a call to service: Thank you in advance, to all who are able to support the Utah Ren Faire in Thanksgiving Pointe during the last weekend in August, the 24th, and 25th. We have a great relationship building with their coordinators and have the opportunity to share our passion and skill for history with other recreation groups, such as the Utah Vikings, Armoured Combat League, and others! This year we hope to have an interactive village to showcase all the fun and various ways that we play! Contact HG Timmur or Their Excellencies for more details.
On the horizon are many baronial activities that will offer the opportunity to revel locally with friends, new and old, to celebrate the many diverse activities in the SCA. In addition to our fighter practice, archery, guild meetings, and workshops stay tuned for more details as we plan for low-key, fun in the spirit of the early days of the SCA. Bring your ideas for revels and picnics and look to our households for leadership! Many activities are being planned now!
So, come and bring a friend, bring two! Come share with us the Dream in what is now our 53rd Anno Societatus!
