Barons Words – May 2017

Unto the Most Ancient Barony of Loch Salann do We, Æylwin and Amanda, send greetings!

The war season is upon us!! Ready your weapons and gear to accept the challenge of going to war this year! There will be classes on period camping and ways to enrich your camping experience. Stay tuned as we coordinate summer classes for fighter practice and plan for upcoming events this summer, such as Artemisian Twentieth Year and Barons’ War!

This past month we were able to attend Honor War and see our new friends in An Tir, as we scoured the beaches for vandals and barbarians! It was well worth the trip to see our good friends from northern Artemisia and to revel with Their Majesties in the great north. So, come one, come all to join us in the fun this month! The weekend of the 13-14 will find us at the Provo Castle to share with our southern neighbors the joy of combat, archery, revelry and more at Castle Crusades! A few weeks later, we shall return to this amazing site for our very own Melee Madness on 4-5 June, so prepare your gear and join us, one and all! Also this month, in the Barony of Gryphon’s Lair, there is an event called Quest on the weekend of 26th through 29th. Please plan to dust off your camping gear and support our northern cousins in this wonderful opportunity!

Mistress Owna’s warrant for Chatelaine is coming up this January, so please consider helping us by taking the reigns to help recruit newcomers and plan community outreach and demos! We are also currently looking for a Youth Combat Marshal and many offices seek deputies, so please come and learn more about how the Barony operates by serving one of these vital roles! It’s a perfect way to make new friends and help plan for the success of us all!

Demo opportunity: Thank you in advance, to all who are able to support the Utah Ren Faire in Thanksgiving Pointe during the last weekend in August. We have a great relationship building with their coordinators and have the opportunity to share our passion and skill for history with other recreation groups, such as the Utah Vikings and others! See HE Owna for more details!

On the horizon are many baronial activities that will offer the opportunity to revel locally with friends, new and old, to celebrate the many diverse activities in the SCA. I addition to our fighter practice, archery, guild meetings, and workshops, stay tuned for more details as we plan for low-key, fun in the spirit of the early days of the SCA. Bring your ideas for revels and picnics and look to our households for leadership! Many activities are being planned now!

So, come and bring a friend, bring two! Come share with us the Dream in what is now our 52nd Anno Societatus!

May your way never be barred and may grass never grow before your door!
