Barons Words – May 2016

Unto the Most Ancient Barony of Loch Salann do We, Æylwin and Amanda, send greetings!

May is now upon us and with it our hopes and desires for a fruitful campaign season. As the weather warms and the evidence of Spring is visible everywhere, my heart is filled with joy and excitement to share the days with the mighty and inspirational populace of the Loch! Come join us at as many activities as you may, from formal events to fighter practice, archery practice, and guild meetings! Share with us, one and all, your skill and every-growing knowledge regarding your most recent project!

This month we were busy with preparations for the coming campaign season, making repairs, setting plans, resources, baggage trains, and more to support Their Majesties’ initiatives, both home and abroad. It has been so much fun to attend fighter practice and see the growth of our fencing program, including seeing Her Excellency, Amanda, suit up and learn from the amazing skill and training of our fencers! I continue to work my kit and train for heavy and I am joyed to see many fighters, new and experienced, to share the joy of combat and brotherhood! Event-wise, this month, I was very blessed to attend Duke Sean’s Fighting Frenzy at the ducal manse and share the training from many amazing folks from around the known world! Meanwhile, Amanda attended the amazing event in Cote du Ciel, Saint Pyre, and share the camaraderie and friendship of our amazing friends to the north. We wrapped up April with the Loch hosting Known World Heraldic and Scribal Symposium, which was a great celebration of learning and teaching. Vivat, once again, to the hospitality and nobility of our great populace this month as we hosted two major SCA-level events! Bravo! Long may the attendees think well of us and please know how proud of all of you We are!

Coming this month are more amazing revels and continuing plans for months to come. The weekend of the 13-15 will find us at the Provo Castle to share with our southern neighbors the joy of combat, archery, revelry and more at Arabian Nights! A few weeks later, we shall return to this amazing site for our very own Melee Madness on 4-5 June, so prepare your gear and join us, one and all! Also this month, in the Barony of Gryphon’s Lair, there is an event called Quest on the weekend of 28th through 30th. Please plan to support our northern cousins in this wonderful opportunity!

We are currently looking for a Youth Combat Marshal and a Thrown Weapons Marshal, while many offices seek deputies, such as the Deputies of the Chatelaine and Deputy Chancellor of the Exchequer, so please come and learn more about how the Barony operates by serving one of these vital roles! It’s a perfect way to make new friends and help plan for the success of us all!

A few final notes: Thank you in advance, to all who are able to support the Ren Faire in Ogden this month. We have a great relationship building with their mayor and have the opportunity to share our passion and skill for history. Weekends to support are the 6th – 8th and again on 20th– 21st of May. See HE Owna for more details!

Their Majesties and Their Highnesses have noticed increased activity in the southern lands of Artemisia. As the group in St. George becomes more active, we ask all populace to consider sending them a very warm and brotherly amount of support as they continue to grow. Our wonderful populace, with our ever graceful and powerful example, can support newcomers and the growth of these greats lands of Artemisia!

May your blessings always outweigh your regrets and worries!
