Well, July is certainly here! This summer has been a whirlwind of activity, and Mother Nature has not been kind with the hot weather. So, come share a cold drink with friends around the evening campfire; join us at guild meetings and practices throughout the month and bring newcomers of all types! Share the camaraderie with us at many coming events and activities this month: share your projects, your learning, and celebrate The Dream by telling us your story. Be it local or across this great Kingdom of Artemisia, join in the fun and make your lasting memories great ones!

XX-year celebration was simply amazing! For those who were able to attend, thank you, for making the event one of my favorite memories ever! Your endurance through the exhausting heat was exemplary and We really enjoyed visiting with you one and off the battle field, under the shade and gathering around the fire. The Hafla, the great sword tourney, Arts and Sciences competitions, the history display, King’s tea, Queen’s tea, and so much more touched Our heart and built long-lasting memories! With the help of our great populace and others around the Barony, I was able to host my very first ever pas d’armes, with the sponsorship of House Hold Tyte and the mentorship of Sir Michael the Lucky. I look forward to having more opportunities to share the tradition of the pas d’arms with more of you!

Coming this month are more amazing revels and continuing plans for months to come. On Saturday, the 15th is the archery shoot and melees at Midge Marsh, hosted by the Barony of Gryphon’s Lair. Come join us for a day of revelry and fun at the Mount Ogden Archery Range!

Then, on Saturday, July 22nd, we have another of our baronial activities, hosted by Barony Arcuum. Come join us in Bluffdale, for a full York archery shoot: 24 rounds of shooting on a 100-yard range!! https://www.facebook.com/events/240252323142395/ It will be awesome!!

Speaking of household events, we are still looking for households or guilds to sponsor local activities throughout the year to help with recruiting, retention, and simply to have fun in our very own Barony. These activities are deliberately designed with little to no cost in mind and local travel. Baronial activities have a decided focus on recruiting newcomers and allow current members to play more locally. Bring a friend, bring a few; for that matter, bring an army of folks to show them the various things the SCA has to offer! These activities are often designed to be a backyard (or in the park) pot luck cookout, and go roughly for 3 to 5 hours only! We have requests for music and dance, blacksmithing displays, persona development, garb, sewing, and embroidery, bardic and story telling, and so much more! Help build our membership, recruit folks into your guilds, and spread the Dream!  So, please discuss with your group and let us know when and where you could host a baronial activity! Bravo to Hold Tyte and Arcuum for accepting the challenge thus far! We look forward to many more to come!

Then, early in August we celebrate the readiness of His Majesty’s troops in Holbrook, Idaho for Baron’s War!!! Come join us the weekend of the 5th to test your skills at the many activities, including archery and thrown weapons, armored combat, rapier combat, children’s activities, and so much more! The theme this year is the Battle for the Bounty!

Looking forward to the end of August, we are inviting one and all to join us at the Utah Renaissance Faire on the evening of Friday the 25th and all day Saturday, the 26th, for a demo and recruiting faire. We are also helping to staff the feast for servers and entertainment.  For those who are not going to Raptor War, please consider helping us out! We will need 12 volunteers on Friday evening and 20 on Saturday! For those helping with the demo, entrance to the faire is free!! For those helping with the feast, the feast is free as well!! Come join us in the fun and help us build our community network with the Utah Vikings, ACL/ HEMA steel combat leagues, and so many more groups joining us at the Faire!

See the kingdom website for further details on events and be sure to join us for weekly fighters practice on Tuesdays and archery practice on Thursdays! Check out the baronial website http://www.lochsalann.org/ for more details on musicians guild, gardening guild, blacksmiths guild and so much more!!

We are currently looking for a variety of Baronial Officers! Chatelaine/ Castellan, Exchequer, Minister of Youth, Youth Combat Marshal and a Thrown Weapons Marshal! All offices seek deputies, so please come and learn more about how the Barony operates by serving one of these vital roles! It’s a perfect way to make new friends and help plan for the success of us all! If you are uncertain what each office entails, please be sure to contact Us for more details! Current and past officers, tap someone you think would benefit from taking on an office or a deputy office!

Stay cool and hydrated these hot, sweltering days! Come share a cold beverage!
