Barons Words – July 2016

Unto the Most Ancient Barony of Loch Salann do We, Æylwin and Amanda, send greetings!

As the passing months envelop us the full heat of summer, we look to the campfire to be the evening centre of activity and sharing and the opportunity to share some cold drinks. Come one and all to share the camaraderie with us at many coming events this month to share your projects, your learning, and celebrate The Dream by telling us your story. Bring along some newcomers to share the grand adventure! Sharpen your axes, wax your bows, prepare your supply trains and join us for the festivities that abound, both near and far!

This month we are recovering from a most glorious excursion to SCA 50-year celebration and preparing for the on-going campaign season. At 50-year, we saw the most amazing display of SCA history, from Freon can helmets and carpet armour to the most elaborate of high-gothic German armour. We witnessed and whole-heartedly supported the Pelican ceremony for our most beloved Heloise de Bec, saw a grand procession of royalty from most of the Known World, including equestrian events galore! We enjoyed watching the amazing fighting skills of many from all reaches of Artemisia, even participating in a few tournaments as well! In nearly all events, our populace swept the field in fencing and heavy fields. Vivat to Don Elyas and all assorted fencers for bringing us much honor and worshipfully winning worship! Vivat to His Majesty Damon and His Grace Timmur for wowing us all in the Arthurian Legends Tournament! From our artisans, performers, and every aspect of The Dream, the service of Artemisia once again was exemplary to the known world!

Coming this month are more amazing revels and continuing plans for months to come. On the weekend of the 9th is the revel of Hellsgate in the Barony of Sentinel’s Keep. Then, on the weekend of the 15th is Raptor War in Wendell, Idaho, in the Barony of Arn Hold, followed by Kingdom’s Champions in Worden, Montana, in the soon-to-be Barony of Bronzehelm. Early in August we celebrate the readiness of His Majesty’s troops in Holbrook, Idaho in Baron’s War!!! See the kingdom website for further details and be sure to join us for weekly fighters practice on Tuesdays and archery practice on Thursdays!

We are currently looking for a Youth Combat Marshal and a Thrown Weapons Marshal, while many offices seek deputies, such as the Deputies of the Chatelaine and Deputy Chancellor of the Exchequer, so please come and learn more about how the Barony operates by serving one of these vital roles! It’s a perfect way to make new friends and help plan for the success of us all!

May the road always rise to meet you and may the wind be ever at your back!
