Baronial Forum Report – December 2017

December 13, 2017

Chronicler:
Please consult the Questing Quill for more news about our Barony.

Martial Arts (Heavy, Rapier, Archery, Thrown Weapons:
Heavy and Rapier Practices will be held December 19 only during this month at our winter site at Veterans Memorial Park (8030 S 1825 W West Jordan, UT 84088). Practices at the UFC Gym (7653 700 E, Midvale, UT 84047) are suspended until after the first of the year.

Nine people participated in Heavy practice in November. Two practices had to be canceled due to site availability issues. Thirty-two fighters attended Rapier practices. Again, two had to be canceled due to the site not being available. Because of these conflicts, recommendations for other sites are welcome. The rapier community does have the option of setting up other days and places, independently of the heavy community.

Archery is meeting at its winter location in Sugarhouse. Fifteen to twenty participate each week. Nobody died!

Exchequer:
We earned approximately $800.00 for the Barony through Kingdom A&S and Collegium. This will help to offset our more than $3000.00 fixed expenses we have each year.

MOAS:
Kingdom A&S and Collegium was a big success. Kia Erisdotter is our new Kingdom A&S Champion. Our gate count was 135.

U of LS classes continues to be held. See our website and the University’s FB page for updates and information.

See the Questing Quill for information about other guilds that are meeting around the Barony.

Chatelaine:
We continue to invite letters/applications for this key position of the Barony. Without an officer it is difficult to grow our membership, take care of new members and provide Demos to the community. Please speak with me or HE Aeylwin if you want to know more.

Youth Officer:
Don Turi MacCarthy attended his first Forum in his new role. Updates about what we hope to have in place for future events will be posted on the Questing Quill, our website, and maybe FB. With both a Youth Officer and a Youth Combat officer we expect to hold youth combat activities at Defender’s Tourney. This will require us to have adults who are trained in the rules of youth combat, so expect classes regarding marshaling in the future.

Herald:
Two submissions were sent to the College of Heralds for approval. One continues to be in process. When fighter practice stabilizes we hope to have a Herald’s table there at least monthly. A consultation table was held a Solstice Court.

Quartermaster:
Our storage shed is getting full. A Baronial yard sale would help clear out duplicates and no longer needed items, as well as obtain more filthy lucre for paying taxes to the Crown. More details to come.

Populace Meeting:
We will hold this meeting at TEs on January 17, 2018. If you have something you would like to discuss please contact me at [email protected].

Other Business:
The Barony will be sending a bid to Kingdom for the Kingdom Camping event this July. We hope to involve the Shire of Stone Gate, as well as other groups, in holding this event. We will have a name other than “Kingdom Camping event” as soon as possible. It will not be called Baron’s War. As always, we need volunteers to help arrange and set up this event. Contact me if you are interested. Details about the Event Steward and other information will be available next month.

Five hundred business cards were given out at Zoolights (none, so far as I know, to primates other than homo sapiens). Our displays were well received by the public.

DISCLAIMER: This report is provided as a courtesy to the Barony’s Populace and is not to be taken as an official (or error-free) communication. The Baronial web page, loch-salann.org, is the official site. It and the various unofficial FB pages are additional sources of information regarding the activities of the Barony.

Any member of the populace is welcome to attend the monthly Forum, which is held at 7 pm on the second Wednesday of the month, at Their Excellencies, 13575 S 1300 E, Draper. Next Forum will be January 10, 2018.

Yours in Service,

Luveday de Salford – Seneschal
